There is a legend that King Solomon married the daughter of the Egyptian pharaoh to end the enmity between the Jews and the Egyptians. After the death of Solomon, during the reign of his son Rehoboam, Jeroboam (probably a henchman of Pharaoh Sheshonk) became the first king of the separated ten tribes of northern Israel kingdom. Jews moved to Egypt after the defeat of Judah in the war with Babylon and the destruction of the Temple of Solomon in 597 BC. After the defeat of the uprising led by Bar Kokhba, many Jews moved to Egypt. Also, large streams of persecuted Jews headed along the northern coast of Africa and further to the Apennine Peninsula.
